The original game, Wolfenstein 3D, is considered by most to be the grandfather of the first person shooter. The original Wolfenstein paved the way for classic games like DOOM and Quake, and it laid the foundation of the genre we know today. Just before completing each part of a single player mission, a window appears on screen displaying Mission Stats: Time, Objectives, Secret Areas, Treasure, and Attempts.
These mission stats are for your information only: unlike previous games in this series, there are no high scores and thus no points awarded for collecting treasure, and no bonuses for completion quicker than any par time, finding all secret areas or collecting all treasure (or killing all enemies).
There are also no lives: if you're killed or fail your mission by killing any civilians, you simply restart indefinitely until you complete it or quit.
