  1. Using Twitch To Download Addons Wow

StreamBuddy is a World of Warcraft AddOn that will make your life, as a streamer.

I have been using the Curse client for many many years to download addons for WoW & keep them updated. But I have not been able to open it for a couple weeks. Every time I try I get some sort of error message that it cannot connect to the internet.
I did some googling & found out that Curse is merging with Twitch; I think I read that the process is becoming final some time this week. So I created a Twitch account & followed the steps to merge my Curse account with it. But still my Curse client cannot open. Can't even get to a login screen.
What am I supposed to do now? Is there a way to get the curse client working again? I've googled it but haven't found any useful results. Do I have to uninstall & re-install it from scratch? Has the Curse client been taken permanently offline, meaning that it's no longer viable software? Do I have to install a Twitch client and manage my WoW addons from there? If so, do I have to re-install all my addons from scratch, or will they somehow carry over from Curse to Twitch?
I'd rather not have to manually re-do all the settings for all my addons in-game unless it's absolutely necessary (since I don't have memorized what the exact settings are I use, so I'd have to take screenshots of them all and then remake the settings to match the screenshots). So I'd rather get some more input about this problem before I try troubleshooting it that way.
P.S. I'm posting in this sub-forum because this is about non-Blizzard software so I didn't think it would be welcome in the Tech Support sub-forum.
you're late to the party, curse sold out to twitch or merged with them and their client became the 'twitch client' which is the same exact thing pretty much.
Curse is still alive in twitch but you have to download the twitch PC app . You can merge your old curse account through there. All of your add-ons have to updated through the twitch app, and you can still download new ones as well like before. Just a new app
the twitch client has the same functions, but yeah it's balls that you now need twitch to not make addons a hassle
You'll need to download the Twitch desktop app. That app takes the place of the Curse client. https://app.twitch.tv/

?
you do know you dont need the app to DL mods manually?

Yeah, but people want ease of management, and it's not hard to see why.
I remember years of managing Oblivion Mods by hand. After getting Nexus Mod Manager for Skyrim, I could never go back.
Get a Mac. It just works.
uh, twitch client.
it's the same thing.

When I looked this stuff up, I noticed that the merge began early last year, which was interesting because my Curse client was working fine until about 2 weeks ago.
Anyway I will go ahead & download the Twitch app like everyone's saying, but I still need to know whether my in-game addon settings will carry over automatically, or whether they'd return to default same as if they'd all been uninstalled in the curse client then reinstalled from scratch. Because if it's the latter then I will have to take screenshots of the settings on all my toons BEFORE I install the addons thru the Twitch client.

I see you like to play as a troll.

That's not how it works. Only if you tell the App to Delete an addon will it reset.

Unless is doesn't.
lol
Hey, Sewsherri, you shouldn't have to redo all your addon settings moving to the twitch client.

Gosh manually unzipping files every time I wanted a mod for oblivion. This man speaks the truth.
Boy I remember the days of the WowAceupdater. There was such paranoia about the security of that program back in those days, haha.

^ Works just fine for me. Have not downloaded a Twitch client or whatever. I don't even have a Twitch account.

Mine all showed up same as always, just that it was Twitch rather than Curse.
the settings for your addons are .. oddly, not stored where the addons themselves are.
they are in the WTF folder under your account->charactername
There is also a list of communal settings for things like macros and addons that can keep settings over multiple characters.
Twitch (and curse) only deals with the install and removal of the physical parts in the interface folder.
Thus your settings should be fine. Not to mention that Bliz actually shadow copies your WTF folder on their side. Ever delete/reset an addon and have the settings hang around? That's why. It is part of the fact that their default UI is now addons as well (thus the blizz bar bla bla in the interface folder)
That said the problem you might have is that all your addons are there in game, but twitch doesn't load them correctly in it's own interface. Let's hope that doesn't happen, cus then you might loose some of your settings in the ensuing install and uninstall to install addon ridiculousness.
